The MSSC will have a special guest for its Dec. 5 membership meeting: Dr. David Barbe, president of the American Medical Association.
Dr. Barbe became the AMA’s 172nd president in June and will be making his second visit in two years to Wichita, where he did his family medicine residency in the KU-sponsored program at St. Joseph Medical Center from 1980 to 1983. Dr. Barbe earned his undergraduate and medical degrees at the University of Missouri. During his 2015 MSSC visit, he mentioned that he and his wife enjoyed their time in Wichita but that the experience left them somewhat conflicted on the Jayhawk-Tiger issue.
In December, Dr. Barbe will share recollections of their time here and provide an update on the AMA. The meeting will also feature the annual Wine with a Purpose auction benefiting Project Access.
After residency, Dr. Barbe returned to his hometown of Mountain Grove, Mo., where he practices to this day.
